Founded in 1972 by a group of friends with a love for theater, Colonel Town Players began on the stage of the Colonel Town Community Center and quickly became a beloved part of Lancaster life. From our first big musical Carousel to more than 120 productions since, we've built a tradition of laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable performances.
We’re a true community theater—where families perform together, where newcomers become lifelong friends, and where everyone pitches in, onstage and off. Over the years, we've tackled everything from classic farces to full-scale musicals, often with daring sets, clever improvisation, and a lot of heart.
In 2019, we launched a youth program to pass on the joy of live performance to the next generation. As we look to the future, we remain committed to creativity, connection, and keeping the magic of theater alive in the North Country.
We see a future filled with bold productions, new voices, and deeper community connections. Our youth program is growing, inspiring the next generation of performers, directors, and dreamers. We're investing in better lights, stronger sets, and inclusive spaces—so that anyone, from any background, can step onto our stage and shine.
But more than anything, our future is about people. About the laughter that echoes backstage, the nerves before a first entrance, and the standing ovations that say, “You were seen. You mattered.” We dream of a theater where every child finds courage, every adult finds joy, and every audience member feels a little more alive.
So join us. Whether you build, sing, donate, direct, or simply clap—we need you. Because the story of Colonel Town Players isn’t finished. It’s just getting started!
